Department Competencies

Access: Department Directors can view, add, deactivate and reactivate competencies for each department.

Competencies are specialized qualifications that hospital staff members earn based on a predefined number of hours spent performing a specific job, or a predefined number of instances performing a specific procedure. Competencies are like Skills in that, once earned, they indicate a certain level of experience and therefore do not expire.

Standardized Competencies List

The competencies listed below are available for use in setting up the department competencies matrix and for assignment to employees.

To associate competencies to a department:

In the main navigation menu, select Departments > Competencies.
Select a Facility.
Select a Department.
Select the competencies relevant to your department from the Competency Code and Description drop-down.
Click Add
To remove a competency, click the Deactivate link.
Click the Reactivate link to return a competency to use.

Important Note: Use caution when adding competencies. Once a competency has been added to a department, it can only be deactivated. It CANNOT be deleted.
